PURE PHOTOGRAPHY

About Pure Photography

Nature has been a source of inspiration to artists for as long as humans have been making art. The beauty that can be found in the landscape holds a universal truth. Throughout history, artists have been trying to capture that truth in their art; from the earliest cave paintings to the 17th century, landscape paintings became a famous discipline in the arts, especially in the Dutch Golden Age with painters like Jacob van Ruisdael and Aelbert Cuyp.

In contemporary art, landscape paintings are not as prominent as they used to be, but plenty of artists still take inspiration from nature.

Pure Photography is a conceptual approach to landscape photography. Het Kralingse Bos, a beloved park in the city of Rotterdam serves as the subject matter for this project. The series starts with a colour palette of abstract photographs taken at the park. This colour palette is a collection of extreme close-up images of all the different colours that can be found in Het Kralingse Bos in the month of November. With these images, a new virtual landscape is constructed.

the aim of this project is to continue for an entire year so that the changing of the seasons becomes a prominent aspect of the series.
